Current Stock Prices

In the "old days" people who were heavily invested in stocks used to go and sit in the various brokerage houses in order to actively watch the current stock prices as they glided along the electric ticker tape machines and were then printed using large bands of lights to be read carefully by the investors.

Actually about the turn of the century "current" stock prices were run up and down New York buildings via young messenger boys who were called "pad shovers." Of course the "current" stock prices were at least 20 minutes old by the time the messengers reached the offices of the stockbrokers. Then along came the ubiquitous ticker tape, and that became a very awesome marvel.
Now those serious about knowing the current stock prices have but to open their computers and log onto various sites where the stock prices are given mere nanoseconds after they are compiled by the computers of the New York Stock Exchange, NYSE.
There are various software programs that are downloadable that is actually a very tiny intuitive scrolling stock market ticker. Generally this program has many customizable options, some of which can be used to list as many stocks, by name, as you wish to keep an eye out for. Thus, many people use this kind of software during work hours. It will of course give you up to the minute perfect current stock prices.
This free program allows you to create and edit ticker lists, and download actual quotes and charts solely from the symbols you have listed. The charts you make can actually range from one day to a full five years. Amazingly the refresh rate can actually be set for five seconds and up to 30 minutes!
There is also a free Windows Mobile application that allows you to watch current stock prices with a clear interface on your mobile phone. As with the Freeware mentioned above, it allows charts to be downloaded, and feeds you constant updated stock market quotes. There is no reason any more why someone would not keep up to date with the stock market if they have investments in the market. The stock market is now your oyster!
