Free Online Stock Trading
By: Anne Durrell
There is one word that will
spell popularity anywhere in the world in any language and to any one. That word is free. And when it comes to trading, when you add the word free it can mean money in your pocket in more ways that some others.
Free online stock trading in theory means that you are able to go online,
trade stocks and make money with no out of pocket expense to you. You know, and net expense to your income of zero.
When you are investigating
free online stock trading, be sure to
analyze the fine print with the proverbial fine-toothed comb. There are lots of loopholes there and if you are not careful you can end up in deep
financial issues when you thought you were doing just fine.
One example I found while researching
free online stock trading was a company that touted
free trades and zero commission. Sounds much too good to be true and upon a little digging, it certainly was. Remember, these companies
need to make money in order to stay afloat so they have costs somewhere so that they can offset what it costs them to run the site.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This one particular free online stock trading site did indeed give you
free trades. A full ten free trades per each month, that is after you actually did a total of 25 trades with them at their standard trade fee of $4.50 per trade on standard stocks and $5.00 each on
options trades. The
other option was you could also have those same free trades if you keep a balance of $25,000 with them.
Now certainly this is not the exception but it is the rule, free online stock trading is not free. There are catches and there are things that you need to be aware of.
Each company has different things that are required and some of them are pretty up front with what they are, some of the free online stock trading companies really bury the terms and conditions behind page after page of legality.
My opinion is that everyone needs to
make money to stay in business and I do not begrudge someone making that money. Heck, I like money as well as the next guy. But the companies that state free online stock trading until you actually read the extra fine print would be likened to going to the
local Super Center and seeing milk at ten cents per gallon. Of course you are going to jump on that, but then when you get to
the register finding out that there is a five dollar per gallon fee if you purchase less than 25 items or a minimum of $100. There is
a good chance you would not be happy about that free online stock trading is not going to go away, just make sure you read the rules.
