Free Online Trading
By: Anne Durrell
Zecco made the investment world shake their heads when they first announced
free online trading, and even though Zecco still has that particular offer still open, there are strings attached. You will agree to pay $4.50 for
stock trades, plus make 25 trades per month or maintain a $25K balance and this will entitle you to get 10 free trades each month.
If you wish to use
trade options with sophisticated tools, that's still going to cost you $4.50 per leg. In addition you will agree to pay 50 cents per contract. That's still the lowest price for stock trades in the industry.
The idea of
free online trading had many online brokers up at arms in the beginning but Zecco still offers this, and they have grown steadily since making that announcement.
Online stock trading is a full-size phenomenon these days and the previous sizeable commissions and fees that are involved in online trading just keep going down.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Currently, it is not even uncommon to read various
online trading services announcing that they will give you $25 or sometimes even more just for the act of signing up. Some offer you $100 in commission free trades if you but deposit a certain agreed upon amount of money into your new account.
Some companies are even offering no fee IRA's, various
money market funds and commission back to you for the money you agree to keep in your stock account. Thus with the advent of all these offers, the Internet has brought new players to the playing field.
Now, the Internet has become an outstanding location in order to conduct stock
market research all the while using some of those free resources, as well as the free quotes and even endless free information.
Even TD Ameritrade now charges $5 for trades, with no share limits, and it's $5 for OTCBB/pink sheet stocks too. In another offer, they also stipulate that you must be a U.S. citizen, and you also need to be a 2 year veteran of
online discount trading as well as internet surfing, if you can prove all that as well as deposit $5,000 then you can get 20 free trades each month.
Many other brokers are offering that same deal, and again and again we find that the prices are plummeting for the commissions on
stock trades. Watching the Internet for such deals has become commonplace, but it is getting more and more people involved in the stock market.
As things pick up, and people are able to return to work and actually earn a decent salary once more, then the
stock market will undoubtedly profit even more from the lowered commissions being offered.
