Stocks Quotes
By: Anne Durrell
There are so many ways to get
stocks quotes if one has a computer that it sets one's mind to spinning. Let's look at a few of them.
For instance there is Quote.com. They currently offer totally free real-time last sale and other quotes information that includes the last bid/ask for any of the stocks trading on AMEX, NYSE, NASDAQ and the
London Stock Exchange, but for level 1 only.
Quote.com also gives stock transaction for BATS, which stands for Broker Dealers in the United States. They are at present the 3rd
largest market hub for stock transactions as they take into account roughly 8,000 securities in the real time trading transactions every day.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They also give real time information to its clientele during the pre-market and of course the regular sessions as well. The reason that Quote.com covers BATS is that they currently account for over 10% of all the U.S. equities
trading volume.
FlashQuotes, available through the NASDAQ site, will provide you
stocks quotes for up to 10 U.S. stocks, or even
mutual funds or options. It gives the investors the security's last sale, as well as the net change and the volume.
When securing
stocks quotes you may be interested to know that NASDAQ symbols generally will be 4 or 5 characters long, whereas NYSE symbols are 1 to 3 letters long. When you are quoted a last sale price, that represents the price that a stock last traded at during the regular market hours, though it is delayed by 15 to 20 minutes. To be precise,
NASDAQ stocks are usually delayed 15 minutes, and non-NASDAQ stocks are usually delayed 20 minutes.
Those quotes will always be in U.S. dollars and cents. The net change figure will represent the difference between the current last sale price and the previous days'
official closing price, and of course the percent change will be those sane numbers, but represented in percents.
Share volume in stocks quotes, refers to the number of shares of the traded stock on the listing exchange that were carried out during regular trading hours. It will not include pre-market or after hours sales volume.
MSN MONEY will also give you stocks quotes, but they go a bit further. Their search engine will allow you to request additional information, such as providing you with rapid contact with any
charts you desire as well as giving you key company information.
You may also read any company related news that may influence the
value of your stock, as well as viewing any financial highlights that may be kept on your stock. Not only that, but you may also customize any of your key fundamental data as well as the chart date range.
